Kings Park War Memorial This magnificent tribute to those who served in WW I and WW II overlooks the city, and it is a moving experience to be there! Just to the south of Perth lies Fremantle, host to the America's Cup in 1987, when Australia failed to successfully defend the title it had wrested away from the US, after 140 years. Those of you who follow such things will recall the great controversy of the winged keel on Australia II. Dennis Connor sure remembers! For a nautical nut like the writer, Fremantle is kind of a maritime Disneyland. The Maritime Museum truly does cover Tin Canoe to Australia II, and everything in between. Getting close to the end of Week 1, and we get a chance to experience Probus (a retired professional and business spin-off of Rotary), as Gwen entertains a group of about 40 great folks on Friday night, and then on Saturday night we tag along for an evening of Petanque (a bit of a cross between lawn bowling and bocce, but with smaller, steel balls.) - - - and then we're off at 6 AM Sunday to: a) Start Week 2 of our 2004 Aussie Adventure; b) Head for Darwin, in the Northern Territory; and c) Give Gwen a break, and descend on Eleanor & Joe Fisher!
